Marriage fit for Kings- NZ businessman hosts Big Fat Wedding for two Sons in Hyderabad

For a change, Hyderabad, and not Delhi is making big news for its big fat weddings. Late last year, Taj’s newly-opened Falaknuma Palace acquired the status of being the most luxurious boutique wedding property. In December 2010 Krishna Bhupal (grandson of GVK Reddy) married Dia Mehta (daughter of Mumbai’s diamond merchants Devaunshi and Anoop Mehta) at a fairy-tale wedding, which international glossies featured as the most spectacular Society Wedding of the Year. Last week, a NZ/ Hyderabad based Real Estate tycoon S. Ravinder was in the news for hosting “the most expensive wedding” in South India. Ravinder’s two sons Rohit and Ranjeet married cousins Shruti and Divya at a week-long affair with different themes—Bengali, Rajasthani, Punjabi, Middle Eastern, Jodhaa Akbar and hold your breath ‘Underwater’.

S. Ravinder in an interview to WeddingSutra said: “I approached Wizcraft, the Wedding Planners who I had interacted with at IIFA Awards, to execute me and my wife’s dream of organising the most exotic wedding for our sons.” Ravinder does not believe in religious traditions, nor does he believe that the bride’s family should be managing the wedding affair; he and his wife directed the organisers and the bride’s family came in as guests. He adds: “This is an arranged marriage. Two years ago, when we formalised the alliance, we didn’t have an engagement ceremony, only a commitment function. The wedding was held as per the Special Marriage Act and the traditional wedding ceremony lasted for less than five minutes, where the bride and groom exchanged Platinum chains with a diamond pendant to Sivamani’s beats.”

More shaadi details:

- Belly dancers from Dubai, dancers from Russia and percussionist Sivamani performed at the numerous functions.
- A pink Mercedes, one of its kind in India was bought to ferry the brides around town.
- After the Jodhaa Akbar theme wedding, the guests were asked to shift to another side of the reception which had an underwater and desert theme. The shell at the underwater theme reception was closed and opened once the bride and groom got into it.
- The ostentatious festivities were managed by Wizcraft and a record 15,000 guests (10,000 were invited) turned up at the dazzling main wedding function at GMR Gardens on 25th February.

Delhi’s Celebrity Wedding Photographer Bankim Jain whose team managed High definition videography & photography for all the functions, shares with WeddingSutra some photographs.

Sanjay and Pinky Reddy with their daughter
Mallika and son Keshav

When glamorous socialite Pinky Reddy or her parliamentarian father Subbirami Reddy send out an invitation, India’s most powerful people drop everything to mark the date on their calendar. Little wonder the wedding of Pinky Reddy’s daughter is a much-awaited event and expected to be the most spectacular wedding of 2011. Mallika, the 21 year old daughter of Pinky and Sanjay Reddy is engaged to Sidharth Indukuri whose family runs Indu projects, the Hyderabad-based Infrastructure company; this is an arranged match and the big day is in June.

Last year, when Sanjay Reddy’s nephew (his sister Shalini Bhupal’s son) Krishna married Dia, the daughter of a Mumbai-based diamond tycoon, the wedding was referred to as the hottest Society Wedding of the year. The functions included a pre-wedding celebration at Chowmohalla Palace with performances by Sonu Nigam, percussionist Sivamini, Louis Banks and Hariharan. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the event in the form of a poetic narration, written and narrated by Poet Iqbal Patni. The wedding was at Mumbai’s Cooperage ground and the post-wedding party at the Taj Falaknuma Palace where the decor was designed by Tarun Tahiliani. We hear that for Mallika’s wedding, GVK Reddys, popularly known as Hyderabad’s first family, are inviting between 6 and 7,000 guests, and the three main events, all to be managed by three different event management companies will be held at an expansive ground.

The billion-dollar GVK Group run by father-son duo GVK and Sanjay Reddy have several business interests, one of them is GVK Airports which undertook modernization and expansion of Mumbai and Delhi Airports. GVK Reddy’s wife Indira Reddy takes care of the group’s hotel business—they co-own 5 Taj Properties. Pinky Reddy manages the family’s charities and social responsibility initiatives. Considered every designer’s darling patron, Pinky is known as much for her down-to-earth nature as her high-flying lifestyle. The couple have two children, Mallika who has just returned to Hyderabad after completing studies in London and son Keshav, 19 who is studying in the US.

Popular Telugu actor Junior NTR tied the knot with Lakshmi Pranathi at a grand ‘Gold and Purple’ theme wedding at Hitex, Hyderabad on 5th May. The elaborate sets were created by South’s award-winning Art Director Anand Sai, and the décor was done by Hyderabad’s most sought-after Wedding Planner Dinaz Noria.

Junior NTR is the son of N. Harikrishna, the eldest son of late NT Rama Rao, film thespian and the founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Pranathi’s father is a Hyderabad-based business magnate and her mother Narne Mallika, is TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s niece. Huge crowds of fans gathered outside Hitex, and the couple walked into the massive venue for the pre-wedding reception at 7.40 pm. Politicians of all hues, film and business personalities greeted the couple, post which the stage was reset for the traditional wedding ceremony that began after 1.00 am.

Pranathi wore traditional heavy silk sarees and gold jewellery for the wedding. For the reception, she chose a lime georgette saree with a pink border and white work teamed with heavy diamond jewellery. Junior NTR wore a white sherwani.

Hyderabad is now synonymous with Big fat South Indian Weddings. This week industrialist GV Krishna Reddy’s grand-daughter weds in Hyderabad, and the wedding is expected to be one of the grandest weddings of the year, where Mukesh and Anil Ambani, Salman Khan, Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan will be the star guests. The city boasts of some of the finest properties for big conferences & weddings—like HICC and Ramoji Film City and some of Hyderabad’s shaadi specialists are much sought-after among the city’s super-rich Reddys and Marwaris. We profile Decor expert Dinaz Noria, Ace Photographer Venkat Ramana, Catering King Hemang Momaya and Event Managers Rakhi and Sanjay Kankaria.

Decor by Dinaz
One of the city’s most respected wedding vendors, the cheerful and amiable Dinaz is very popular among Hyderabad’s VIPs; she earlier worked with British Airways and moved to Hyderabad almost two decades ago, after her marriage to a city businessman. She started her creative career with creating window displays for Jewellery stores, and thanks to an encouraging response from one Jeweller, she ventured into floral & decor design for events. Since then Dinaz and her team have conceptualised and executed, many high-profile theme weddings and events in Hyderabad.

Kodak Moments by Venkat Ramana

Venkat Ramana who ranks among the finest photographers in South India, has photographed hundreds of high profile weddings. He believes ‘photography is not just an art anymore, but a full-time vocation, it’s important for the professional to understand the challenges of the competitive business and build relationships that last forever.’ Explains Ramana: “Unlike earlier, today our clients are taking more interest in photography, they’re investing more time on pre-wedding portraits and want many candid moments in their wedding album.” Interestingly, in this digital age, there is more interest in preserving the beautiful wedding moments, through beautiful prints, Says Ramana: “For many weddings we’ve printed anywhere between 1,000 and 5,000 photographs from the different wedding functions, in new innovative albums and photo books.”

Exotic Flavors by Hemang Momaya

Gaurav Caterers, is much sought-after both in the Marwari and Reddy community. Says 28 year old Hemang Momaya whose father set up the business: “My father was in the transport business, but since he loved food, he started helping his friends as a hobby. And some years later, he plunged full-time into catering. We have two distinct offerings—for Marwari weddings, a Rajasthani spread is a must-have, and for Reddy weddings, in place of the Rajasthani spread, there is a variety of rice dishes”. A very elaborate fare at a super-grand wedding with catering by Gaurav Caterers would include upto 40 varieties of chaats from Kanpur, Indore, Delhi and Mumbai. Punjabi, Mughlai and South Indian or Rajasthani delicacies, Italian, Mexican and Thai cuisine, exotic fruits from around the world, 16-18 varieties of Mango, and a spread of sweets numbering between 21 and 101.

Extravagant Events by Rakhi and Sanjay Kankaria

The dynamic husband-wife duo were running a stock broking/ finance business till 15 years agp, and the downturn in the market, propelled them to venture into a different terrain. Over the next few years, Rachnoutsav their event management company built a formidable reputation among corporate houses in Hyderabad and today their clients include the who’s who of corporate India. Explains the articulate Rakhi Kankaria: “We ventured into wedding management just three years ago, the majority of our wedding clients, are Reddy’s media, construction and manufacturing barons. Most of them still prefer the good old home town wedding vis-a-vis destination weddings at locales like Goa, Bali or Thailand. Sometimes for the engagement, upto 3,000 guests are invited, and the numbers for the wedding, go upto ten, twelve thousand or even more.” One of the most interesting wedding themes executed by Rachnoutsav was a ‘Chettinad and Thai’ fusion theme.

The Taj Group of Hotels in association with WeddingSutra.com invited some of India’s luxury wedding planners to stay at Hyderabad’s legendary Falaknuma Palace. Many of India’s grandest weddings have taken place in Hyderabad and with the revival of palace properties like Taj Falaknuma Palace and Chowmallah Palace, the invitees were most excited to visit Hyderabad- after all, they would not only experience the hospitality of the Taj Group, they would also get to see how and why the group spent 15 years restoring and renovating the palace.

A horse-drawn carriage (restored from the Nizam’s time) takes guests up a hill to the palace.

The Taj Falaknuma Palace is like no Indian palace most of us have seen in Rajasthan and other states, it looks almost European– a grand country mansion of an English nobleman.

More a palace, than a hotel.

“So you stayed at the magnificent Falaknuma. I’m envious”? many friends remarked. Staying there was not just a special experience, it was an experience of a lifetime- after all Falaknuma Palace offers guests an experience than is hard to replicate anywhere in the world.

One Year Anniversary Shoot at Taj Falaknuma Palace

Whenever we receive an email with photos captured at Taj Falaknuma Palace, we get nostalgic. They remind us of the beautiful two days we spent with some of India’s top wedding planners at the breathtaking palace turned hotel. The opulent interiors, the verdant palace lawns, and a glimpse into the imperial lifestyle of the Nizams who once governed the legendary city of Hyderabad. But what truly gave us a peek into the royal life were all the conversations we had with Girish Sehgal, the affable General Manager and the exemplary service by his spirited team.

Sushma and Meher live in Vizag and they wanted to celebrate their first anniversary in the most memorable way. They explored many holiday options, until one day Meher thought, why not go and stay in a place closer to their home, at one of the most beautiful palaces in the world. They decided to check in to Taj Falaknuma Palace, and to make the special day even more special, they got in touch with Hyderabad based Candid Photographer Harsha Reddy to schedule a photo shoot. Sushma was of course most excited by the plan! After they checked in, it did not take much effort for the beautiful couple to leave the comfort of their room and get ready to face the camera. Sushma wore one of her favorite ensembles, and Meher was on top of the world- after all, he and his loved one were at the luxurious home 200 feet above Hyderabad. As for Harsha, this was one of his most memorable assignments: “You enter the Palace in a horse carriage, and you are welcomed with a shower of rose petals from the floor above– what an amazing way to begin a work day.”

Here are the photos, captured along the courtyard on day one, just as the sun went down, and the next day, at sunrise. Now Sushma and Meher can’t wait to put up some of the framed photos at home. And we can’t wait to go back to Taj Falaknuma Palace!

Ram Gopal Varma’s daughter ties the knot

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s daughter Revathi, a medico got married to fellow doctor Pranav at Hotel Marriott in Hyderabad. It was a low-key affair, not a big, glitzy bollywood wedding or a grand Hyderabad-style wedding. According to reports, the bride wanted a very intimate wedding and invite only those people who she and her family knew personally. The decor was minimal and classy, with not too many high profile guests in attendance. Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) was dressed in his usual flamboyant style and welcomed the guests at the entrance. However, he stayed away from the mandapam, and later came to bless the newly-weds. While the couple, the bride’s mother and her close friends stepped out to pose for pictures to the waiting media, RGV stayed away from being photographed.

Most of the wedding arrangements were done by Ratna, RGV’s ex wife and her family who live in Hyderabad. Before the wedding the media had reported that this will be a simple wedding and RGV’s SMS invite to his friends made news. His humorous text message read: ‘Hey, finally even I couldn’t escape this– my daughter is getting married on 15th August at 8,45 am. Please come if you feel like, to see what kind of a joker I will be looking.”

The Falaknuma Experience. At India’s finest Wedding Venue.

By Akshay Chavan

I started my journey on a quest, to find the loveliest wedding venue in India. A place with high end bespoke wedding possibilities, but something ‘that had not been done before’. In the ‘been there, done that’ Indian wedding scene, what could I find beyond the palace hotels of Rajasthan or the beach resorts of Goa? I was on a wild goose chase, but thankfully a suggestion from a friend helped. You might ask, did I find what I was looking for? Well! We shall see.

Now, as my quest takes me to the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, I want you to imagine and take this journey with me.

After a short flight, you and your guests arrive in Hyderabad for the wedding and are received by an entourage of hotel cars. Your car navigates through the narrow streets and bazaars of old Hyderabad, passing century old shops still selling spices and pearls, like a medieval souk transposed into modernity. You finally reach the Engine Bowly area, and your car takes a turn in a narrow lane. At first, you are a little underwhelmed. Is this where Falaknuma Palace is?

This is just a start to your Falaknuma experience and what a start it is! Perhaps no other hotel in India has an entry route as dramatic as the Taj Falaknuma Palace. At the end of the lane, are two magnificently crested gates which swing open, and as your car enters, you feel as if you are travelling back in time. Your car slowly starts climbing up the hill, along a tree lined road, turning at a dozen hairpin bends, passing lawns and gardens. Your heart beats faster in anticipation.

The car arrives at the opulent main gate of the palace and the palace retainer opens the door and does an elegant ‘adaab’. You leave the car and board an elegant horse chariot or a buggy for a drive up the hill again till you arrive at the grand portico of the palace, to be welcomed by the palace team. Escorted by the royal guard holding the ‘coat of arms’ and shower of rose petals, you get an authentic experience of how the H.E.H Nizam of Hyderabad was welcomed when he arrived at his palace. The warm smiles and greetings of the hotel staff make you and your guests feel so welcome. As if you have just stepped into a grand family home!

You enter the grand portico and past the Carrara marble entrance foyer, and then you gasp looking at the grand staircase. From vaulted cloud-dappled ceilings to gilt chandeliers, the grand staircase has an air of European luxury and Cinderella magic. It looks straight out of an old Hollywood movie and you almost expect Gloria Swanson, Elizabeth Taylor or Audrey Hepburn to descend grandly in their flowing evening gowns, holding a long cigarette holder, to greet you all with ‘Hellllo Daahling… how lovely to see you… Muah… Muah …’

The extremely attentive palace staff now escorts you and your guests to your rooms and suites. You are now struck by the high level of service and attention to detail. They all seem so eager to help! There is almost nothing out of place in this 100 year old palace. Not a crease to the curtain, immaculate upholstery; even the brass door knobs gleam. It is all spit and polish to perfection. The immaculately designed rooms and suites, the stream of extras, the sheer smothering attention by staff, makes you feel in need of air.

When the guests enter their rooms a surprise awaits them. There is a special bespoke hamper which you personally designed in consultation with the hotel. The hamper is so well thought out and so personalized, your guests just coo in delight! The day moves on and your guests make their plans. Some have sunk into their plush beds while others are exploring the extensive palace grounds. The younger members are off to dip in the pool while group of uncles exchange bawdy jokes at the palace bar. The bride and the ladies check into the Jiva spa to pamper themselves with a range of traditional Indian wellness treatments and experience a lovely soothing ambience.

On your request, the hotel has arranged for the visit of a traditional ittar maker, who will be making a bespoke ittar for the wedding. You select a combination of fragrances and give it a romantic name. It is a special wedding souvenir for all the guests. Later, Mr Prabhakar the palace historian takes everyone on a champagne tour of the palace, his tales replete with stories of the Nizam, the Begums and old Hyderabad, told with a dramatic flair and elan. The Jade room echoes with laughter as the champagne flutes are handed over through the palace walk.

In the evening, as the sun goes down, the palace turns into a symphony of music and light. The fountains play, the chandeliers shimmer and sound of music pervades every corner of the palace. Everyone is now dressed for the Mehndi and Sangeet in the Rajasthani garden. (You always wanted atleast a small element of Rajasthan in the wedding, didn’t you) The beautiful traditions of Rajasthan come alive at the gardens at the palace. The gardens showcases Rajputana architecture in the three magnificently constructed Jharokhas overlooking the city enhanced by an beautiful sculptured fountain. What follows, is a night of music, cocktails and dancing followed by a lavish Hyderabadi dinner. As you savor the ambiance, enchanting aromas arouse your curiosity with your eyes gleaming to the gastronomic delights like the famed Hyderabadi biryani, shikampuri kebabs, mirchi ka salan among others. The succulent delicacies and melt-in-your-mouth meats are to die for! After that lovely dinner, you return to your room happy and exhausted, and sink into the lush comfortable bed.

The next morning, you greet your guests at a lavish breakfast spread on the Jade room verandah. Overlooking the spectacular morning panorama of the Hyderabad city, you tuck into warm freshly baked breads and jams, as the cool breeze glazes across your face. Your guests are gushing about last night and can’t wait for the celebrations today. The aunties, uncles, friends and cousins all look pleased and so are you. After breakfast, you take a lazy stroll across the vast palace gardens hoping to catch a glimpse of the over 80 species of birds and 40 species of butterflies. Later, the guests explore the historic city or go on a shopping expedition, while you stay back to prepare for your big family day today.

But strangely, there is nothing much for you to do! The hotel’s almost immaculate service and the specialists on their panel are working as per schedule, and everything is going on smoothly. You rest easy knowing the Taj high standards will be applied when preparing for your event, resulting in the finest food, décor and other highlights for the enjoyment of your guests. You couldn’t have asked for more.

The wedding is held in the front lawns of the palace against gleaming backdrop of the moonlight bathed palace. The music, the floral decorations, the baraatis, the pheras, aperitifs for guests, everything is just perfect. The beautiful lighted palace façade, light music, the fragrances, the laughter, the moonlight sky shimmering in the fountains and glimmering on the bride’s diamonds make it a scene straight out of an Arabian nights fairytale.

You always save the best for last. A special dinner for the bridal couple and your closest family and friends is held at the spectacular banqueting hall, on the world’s largest dining table (an exact replica of the banqueting table at the Buckingham palace, how appropriate for new age royalty like you!). Soft music plays in the background as the dinner created by master chefs, is served in exquisite silver service. This is the epitome of sophistication. Even the most skeptical relative is impressed. Champagne flows like water through the night. There is laughter, happiness and the enchanting night passes on as though it would never end. You call it a night and move to your room for much needed rest. As you sink into the bed tired and exhausted after all the revelry, a couplet from the movie Mughal-e-Azam comes to mind..

“Iss mehfil mey koi jee ley agar, marney ka usey gham kya hoga,
Jab raat hai aaisi matwaali, phir subaha ka alam kya hoga”

Next morning its time to thank the hotel staff and big goodbye to Hyderabad. The guests are still talking about the ‘the unforgettable wedding’ ‘immaculate service’ ‘wonderful experience’. Few days later, you see the photographs of the wedding on Facebook and all the likes, comments and ‘oohhhs’ and ‘aahhs’ it has received. However, the biggest gift for you; is that look in the eyes of your loved ones, which say a thousand words; expressing gratitude for all those unforgettable moments that will always live in their memory. It brings a smile to your face, just like the smile on my face right now, because I have discovered the answer to my quest. I can conclude that nothing beats the Taj Falaknuma Palace for sheer pageantry, glamour and ambiance, making it one of the loveliest wedding venues in the world! I hope you have enjoyed this journey as much as I have. See you at the wedding at Falaknuma Palace. Goodbye!

Meghana and Marc’s Long Distance Wedding- held in Hyderabad

Meghana and Marc’s love story is straight out of a movie. They met in Grad School in Texas, and he was the first person she spoke to on the orientation day, “I was quite fascinated to meet someone from France. Two years later, Marc got down on his knee and asked me to marry him in front of the Eiffel Tower in a beautifully planned proposal. I obviously said ‘Yes’ and we got married in a super fun ceremony in Hyderabad,” says Meghana who now lives in Dubai. She shares with us, how she and her mother planned the wedding in her home town Hyderabad.

IMG_0492

Wedding Planning
Marc and Meghana decided to have two different ceremonies: one in India and one in France to make it easy for everyone. “Planning the wedding in Hyderabad was quite easy, thanks to my mother. We have very similar tastes and I was too busy with work,” says Meghana. Though, the downside of being with an NRI bride, says Meghana, is being unable to keep in touch with what’s happening on the shopping and planning front in India. “A lot of good Indian stores don’t have a strong online presence and it’s almost impossible to shop for bridal wear online. My mother would take pictures on her phone and text me every single day. That’s how I selected my clothes. I think it’s very important to be able to trust at least one person whose tastes are similar to yours (in my case, my mother). I remember not sleeping much for those three months. If I wasn’t at work, I was skyping or emailing my parents regarding wedding updates.”

Wedding Functions
Meghana and Marc planned the entire wedding such that it would not last more than 48 hours, keeping in mind that both were on a short vacation for their wedding. “The first day started with the haldi ceremony. The making of the bride ceremony followed.

019

The theme for this ceremony was Peacock colors. Since my saree was a double-color blue kanchivaram, we decided to create the decor and accents in similar hues,” says Meghana. “This was followed by the mehendi ceremony in the late afternoon. The mehendi was a very relaxed affair and since most of the guests were not from India, they absolutely loved the ritual,” she reveals. Indian street food and Bollywood music completed the ceremony.

The main wedding ceremony was held late in the evening on the following day. The wedding décor and mandap was inspired by the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, the famous Vedic temple in Tirupati. “I wore a red gold Kanjeevaram saree with green highlights and Marc wore a midnight blue kurta.” Little accents like the colourful pots and coconuts were painted by Meghana’s mother herself. “They stood out in the ceremony. We wanted to do some of these things ourselves to give it a personal touch” says Meghana.

As she fondly looks back on the wedding celebrations, she says “I was stressed about a lot of things because I wasn’t sure if Marc’s family would be able to understand the significance of the rituals. So, we made sure we hired a priest who could speak English and translate the proceedings. Since my husband’s family is French, we hired a translator from Alliance Francaise in Hyderabad who helped translate some of the proceedings to his family members. He was great at his work and made sure everyone had fun at the ceremony. What all guests really appreciated was how the two families who are so different, blended so well together at the beautiful affair.”

Wedding Makers
Meghana shares details of the venues and vendors who made the celebrations memorable:

Photography/Cinematography: Hermit Panesar from ‘Girl in Pink Photography’ and Thiru Reddy from Candid Pictures. They both did an amazing job and made sure all our fun memories were captured! They are the nicest and most easy-going photographers I have met so far.

Venues: The haldi and the mehendi ceremony was held in Tulip Inn One Continental Hotel, Hyderabad. The staff was especially nice and super-efficient at execution. The wedding ceremony was in Taj Deccan and most of the wedding guests stayed there. The hotel staff did a great job and made sure everything was well taken care of.

Make up and hair: Makeup and Hairstyling was one thing I was quite concerned about. Thankfully, I found Tamanna Rooz on Facebook. After seeing her work and communicating with her via FB, I felt quite comfortable, and I think she is one of the best Makeup Artists in Hyderabad!

Sarees and jewellery: All my sarees were purchased in Hyderabad and the blouses were given to Mugdha Art Studio for more embroidery and embellishments. And they did a good job.

Meghana’s top 3 tips for couples planning a long distance wedding:

1. Do not freak out! It’s overwhelming and frustrating to plan everything from abroad, but at the end of the day all that matters is who you are marrying. Everything else will fall in place.

2. I think the more you plan, the less stressed you will be on the big day. Especially, considering the fact that all vendors in India are not very time conscious.

3. Don’t compromise on your clothes. It’s very difficult to find the exact saree/lehenga that you imagined in your head and after sometime you might get tired of the search. But when you look back at your pictures, that’s one thing that grabs your attention. So wait till you find the right ensemble!

We love finding out about new beauty products but it’s the products that top makeup artists swear by that has us fascinated. We called up some of our favorite makeup and beauty experts to ask them whichare the beauty products that they cannot do without. Find out more here and add their recommendations to your list too!

Chandni Singh, Delhi NCR
My must-have product is the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation. It gives long lasting coverage with a luminous glow without making it cakey. It diminishes fine lines & evens out the skin tone and takes minutes to feel like second skin!

Chandni Singh 1

Minee Khanna, Mumbai
Amongst my many favorite products, one that I would like to mention is the MAC Powerpoint pencil in Engraved. This waterproof black M.A.C. eyeliner pencil is deeply pigmented and glides on for a fine, precise line.

minee

Nisha Sablok, Mumbai
My favorite beauty product is the Lakmé Absolute Ultimate Kohl because it does not smudge at all, and is waterproof. It is pitch black, which is perfect for an Indian outfit. It can be used for smokey eyes but you have to be really quick before it settles as its waterproof.

nisha

Shruti Sharma, Delhi NCR
Being a makeup lover, it is hard to pick just one product that I cannot live without but if I must take a pick, it would have to be gel eyeliner. It is such a versatile product. I can use it as an eye-liner, kohl or even do a smokey eye with it alone. It also serves as an excellent product to define the eyebrows! The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place gel eyeliner is really good. You can smudge it for a soft smokey effect or draw a clear line to define your eyes. It is safe for the waterline and once it’s dry after the application, its water proof, smudge proof and stays in place all day!

Shivani Sheth, Mumbai
I am always tempted to try new eye makeup products but my mainstay is the MAC Eye shadow in Nylon- a lovely ivory shade with a slight shimmer. I love it because its multi-purpose, I can use it on my eyes to give a nice fresh pop, it can be worn both during day and night and can also be used as a highlighter for the brow bone and cheek bone.

Heema Dattani, Mumbai
There are so many products I use over and over, but amongst all Bobbi Brown Skin foundation SPF 15 tops the list. It is truly a modern foundation that offers invisible-weightless coverage that looks like skin and not makeup. Its hydrating technology leaves the skin feeling cushioned, comfortable and clean. From warm ivory to honey, sand to natural tan shades, they have it all.

Heema Dattani

Tamanna Rooz, Hyderabad
The one product that I cannot do without is the Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer. I use it at work too, the product does the magic when I want to erase / fill the pores to make the skin look smooth and glowing. It also creates the perfect canvas for foundation to blend well on the skin, giving it an overall radiant look.

Tamanna Rooz 1

Varsha Gidwani, Mumbai
The one product I cannot live without is a small makeup sponge applicator with 360 degrees of usable surface called the ‘Beauty Blender’- in fact I often quip that I will have a panic attack if it goes out of stock or gets discontinued. Blending is your friend especially when it comes to makeup for the flawless look. And this is my savior and I recommend it as a ‘must-have’!

Varsha G 12

Vejetha Anand (Swank studio), Bangalore
I cannot do without two products– Mac Prep+Prime and Mac Fix+. Using a good primer can change how makeup looks and feels on you. And Mac Prep+Prime calms and soothes the skin, blots away excess oil, evens out skin redness, and improves the application of foundation or powder. MAC Fix+ is a skin refresher/finishing mist that can be applied before or after makeup to give you a hydrated/ dewy look.

Amrita Sanghavi, Mumbai
The number one rule of beauty is to wear sunscreen every single day, irrespective of the season. And I can’t do with without Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ sunscreen. It is extremely sheer, lightweight and glides onto the skin smoothly. Unlike many sunscreens, this one does not add to the oil factor yet does not dry out the skin.

The natural world has always moved the artistic soul and inspired the creative mind. Art, music, sculpture and poetry have all derived aspects and aesthetics from flora, fauna, the heavens and earth.

The delicate iridescence of flowers, the delightful glory of the full bloom, these have been irresistible to artists like Raja Ravi Varma whose paintings feature women festooned in florals or the mythological characters Shakuntala, Menaka & Avantika in the latest box-office hit, Bahubali, depicted wearing fresh flowers as jewellery.

Here, we present some fresh flower jewellery ideas by Anoo Flower Jewellery who is inspired by nature. The collection is a royal rhapsody of Pakistani and Mughal aesthetics with a contemporary perspective. Using intricate floral work, beads, and gota motifs, their fresh flower jewellery celebrates exotic new forms, inspired by the striking silhouettes and enchanting colours of fresh flowers. Wear these creations as a part of the Sholahshingar at your Mehendi to make your wedding look unique.

A fresh twist to this classic ornament that transforms the bride into a princess, this floral Maang Tikka forms a delicate dip above the brow, highlighting the eyes and enhancing a heart-shaped face, bringing elegance, grace and femininity

Listening to the heart’s music adorned with the Karnphool. These pristine, delicate floral earrings bring fragrance to sweet nothings whispered in your ear.

On trend with the elegance of a floral Baajuband. Flant your arms and steal the show with the precious flower adornments designed to encircle your arms and bring a hint of the island princess to your wedding day.

Let these petals brush your collar-bones with this floral Choker. This astonishing piece of jewellery adds an element of mystique. These beautiful flowers with tiny little beads and contrast pendants, make a perfect necklace for your wedding events and brings the natural to your beauty.

Florals to adorn your beautiful hands. Translated from Hindi, Haathphool is “Flower of the hand”, blossoms that delicately cross the backs of your palms, over the fingers and making every gesture evoke the bloom of the bride.

A colorful floral embedded belt to adorn your waist, the Kamarbandh is structured out of delicate, fragrant jasmine and roses. It rests gracefully on the waist, highlighting your attire in an unusual and enchanting way.

Adding charm to your persona, the floral Chabi Challa lying at the edge of the Lehenga pleats is in vogue. A unique designer piece, you can also wear it with your bridal saree for the traditional stylish look this season.

Tread softly toward your new life with flowers for your tender feet. The floral Payal laden with flowers, buds and beads will make you feel like a mythological beauty.

Trend for this season:

Bold colours in beautiful floral jewellery dictate the global trend this wedding season. Moving beyond the heady but conventional jasmine and roses, brides are experimenting with playful daisies, sexy orchids and even berries. The result is one-of-a-kind designs that are contemporary and look awesome.

Royal Weddings in Hyderabad- Part I

By Akshay Chavan

Hyderabad, the city of Nizams, has been a symbol of royal grandeur and opulence. For centuries, the great wealth of Deccan attracted communities from all over India to settle here, from the Kayasths of the Gangetic plains to Jain and Gujarati merchants of Rajasthan to Maratha warriors. The court of the Nizams of Hyderabad was a unique melting pot of cultures and this unique Hyderabad culture or Tehzeeb is also reflected in its royal wedding traditions, which are by far, the most opulent, by austere standards of South India.

Royal Hyderabad

The Nizams and princesses of Hyderabad have extended the culture of royal weddings over the years through their descendants as part of their tradition.

Hyderabad had an exceptionally large and refined Hindu as well as Muslim aristocracy who had estates bigger than Maharajas of many other Indian states and they vied to host the most opulent wedding extravaganzas for their children. Finest singers and courtesans from the North, cooks from the Mughals courts, Jewellers from South India, Hyderabadi weddings reflected princely India at its finest. While the era of Nizams and Nawabs has passed, the royal wedding traditions remain and can be relived to this day.

As a wedding destination, Hyderabad has a lot to offer. An international airport allows your guests to fly from all over the world. The finest hotel like Taj Krishna, Taj Falaknuma Palace as well as some spectacular venues to host cocktails, receptions and parties like Chowmahalla Palace and other spectacular open air venues. A big attraction is the food. It is joked about Indian weddings, that the only thing the guests remember is the food. The highly fertile Hyderabad has an extremely rich culinary tradition. From the world famous Hyderabadi biryani and kebabs, to traditional and spicy vegetarian Andhra food, Hyderabad has the distinction of being home to some of the finest chefs and caterers, who can recreate old royal recipes for your celebration. Then, there are traditional musicians, kathak dancers, bespoke attarwalas, pearl vendors who will give your wedding that right Deccani touch.

PRIVATE DINING – VIVANTA BY TAJ, BEKAL, KERALA
If you’re looking for a quiet and languid nook in the coastal countryside to renew your vows, Bekal is the place to be. This venue is an absolute delight for sea food lovers, and you can even head out on a fishing trip. The next best option is to accompany a skilled chef at the hotel to the Uduma Fishing Village where he will pick the freshest catch and cook it to your liking. This super special meal can be enjoyed over a candle lit dinner in a cabana by the riverside or in the middle of the river, if you please, as you and your beloved float on a kettuvallam, which is a traditional Kerala houseboat. Foodie couples should definitely have this one to their list.
